Prevention Of Cancer

There is no sure way to prevent cancer. However, doctors have identified several ways to reduce your risk of cancer, such as:

Stop smoking. If you smoke, stop. If you do not smoke, do not start. Smoking is linked to various cancers - lung cancer is not fair. Quitting smoking now reduces the risk of cancer in the future.

Avoid excessive sun exposure. Harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays can increase your risk of skin cancer. Limit your sun by staying in the shade, wear protective clothing and use sunscreen.

Eating a healthy diet. Choose a diet rich in fruits and vegetables. Choose whole grains and lean protein.

Physical activity most days of the week. Regular physical activity associated with a lower risk of developing cancer. The target of at least 30 minutes of physical activity most days of the week. If you have not been exercising regularly, start slowly and work your way up to 30 minutes or more.

Maintain a healthy weight. Being overweight or obese can increase the risk of cancer. Work to achieve and maintain a healthy weight through a combination of a healthy diet and regular exercise.

Calendar of cancer screening. Talk to your doctor about what types of cancer screening tests are best for you based on risk factors.

Ask your doctor about vaccinations. Some viruses increase your risk of cancer. Vaccines can help prevent such viruses as hepatitis B, which increases the risk of liver cancer and human papillomavirus (HPV), which increases the risk of cervical cancer and other cancers. Ask your doctor if the vaccine against these viruses is right for you.

Treatment Of Cancer

There are many treatments available for cancer. Your treatment options depend on several factors including the type and stage of cancer, your general health and preferences. Together, you and your doctor can weigh the benefits and risks of each cancer to determine what is best for you.

Targets for cancer therapy

Anti-cancer therapies are used in various ways, such as:

Treatment to kill or eliminate cancer cells (primary treatment). The primary goal of treatment is to eliminate cancer from your body or kill cancer cells. Any cancer treatment can be used as a primary treatment, but treatment of the most common primary cancer for the most common cancers is surgery. If your cancer is particularly sensitive to radiotherapy or chemotherapy, you can get one of these treatments, such as your primary treatment.

Treatment to kill remaining cancer cells (adjuvant therapy). The goal of adjuvant therapy is to kill cancer cells that might remain after primary treatment. Any cancer treatment can be used as adjuvant therapy. Common adjuvant therapies include chemotherapy, radiotherapy and hormone treatment.

Care to manage side effects of cancer and its treatment (palliative care). The goal is palliative to reduce pain or other symptoms and helps to maintain the quality of life during and after cancer treatment. Palliative care can help alleviate the side effects of treatment or the symptoms caused by cancer itself.

Cancer Drugs

Doctors have many tools when it comes to cancer treatment. Treatment options for cancer are:

Surgery. The goal of surgery is to remove the cancer and the cancer as possible.

Chemotherapy. Chemotherapy uses drugs to kill cancer cells.

Radiotherapy. Radiation therapy uses high energy beams of power, such as X-rays to kill cancer cells. Radiation may come from a machine outside the body (external radiation therapy) or can be placed inside your body (brachytherapy).

Stem cell transplantation. Stem cell transplantation is also known as bone marrow transplantation. Their bone marrow is the material inside bones that makes blood cells of blood stem cells. A stem cell can use your own stem cells or stem cells from a donor.

Biological therapy. Biological therapy uses the body's immune system to fight cancer. Cancer can not survive without control of your body because your immune system is not recognized as an intruder. Biological therapy can help your immune system "see" the cancer and attack it.

Hormone therapy. Certain types of cancers is driven by hormones in the body. Examples include breast cancer and prostate cancer. The removal of these hormones in the body or block their effects can cause cancer cells to stop growing.

Targeted therapy drugs. Drugs that target specific objectives abnormalities within cancer cells that allow them to survive.

Clinical studies. Clinical trials are studies to explore new ways to treat cancer. Thousands of cancer clinical trials are underway.

Other treatments may be available to you depending on your type of cancer.

Symptoms Of Cancer

Signs and symptoms caused by cancer varies depending on what part of the body affected. Some signs and symptoms, but especially cancer are:

Fatigue

Lump or thickening that can be felt under the skin

Weight changes, such as accidental loss or gain

Skin changes such as yellowing, darkening or reddening of the skin, sores that do not heal, moles or changes to existing

Changes in bowel habits or bladder

Persistent cough

Difficulty swallowing

Hoarseness

Persistent indigestion or discomfort after meals

Persistent, unexplained muscle or joint pain

When to see a doctor

Make an appointment with your doctor if you have persistent signs or symptoms that concern you. If you are concerned about your risk of cancer, discuss your concerns with your doctor. Learn about cancer screening tests and procedures are right for you.

Causes Of Cancer

Cancer is caused by changes (mutations) in DNA in cells. The DNA of a cell contains a set of instructions that tells the cell how to grow and divide. Errors in the instructions, may allow a cell to become cancerous.

What gene mutations not?

A mutation can charge a healthy cell to:

Enable rapid growth. A mutation can cause an oncogene, a gene that tells a cell to grow and divide rapidly. This creates many new cells, all with the same oncogene mutation that allows them to grow and divide as fast as normal.

They can not stop the uncontrolled growth of cells. Cells contain genes known as tumor pathogenesis, which recognize an out-of-control growth and to act to stop it. But if the mutation occurs in a tumor suppressor gene, the gene can be reduced or can be turned off completely. This allows the mutated cells to continue to grow and divide.

Mistakes in the DNA repair defects. DNA repair genes to identify and correct DNA mutations. Mutations in the DNA repair gene means that the gene may have no errors in the DNA. This allows more DNA mutations occur.

Mutations in oncogenes, tumor and pathogenesis of the DNA repair genes are the most common cancer found. But many other genetic mutations may contribute to cancer.

What causes mutations?

Sometimes you are born with a genetic mutation. Or a gene mutation can be caused by forces within your body, such as hormones, viruses and chronic inflammation. Genetic mutations can also be caused by forces outside their body, such as ultraviolet (UV), chemicals that cause cancer (carcinogens) or radiation.

How can genetic changes interact with each other?

Scientists believe that more than one genetic mutation, it is necessary to cause cancer. It is not clear how many mutations are collected in cancer formation. And 'likely that this varies in different types of cancer.

Mutations in the gene, you are born with and those you have your whole life to work together to cause cancer. For example, if you have inherited a genetic mutation that predisposes to cancer does not mean that you are sure to have cancer. Instead you can use one or more other mutations that cause cancer. Your inherited genetic mutation may make you more likely than others to develop cancer when exposed to a carcinogen. The genetic mutation begins the process of cancer, the carcinogen may play a role in cancer development.
