Acid Reflux (GERD) Overview

ACID REFLUX
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a chronic gastrointestinal disease, which occurs when stomach acid and sometimes bile flows (reflux) to the food pipe (esophagus). Surf acid irritates the lining of the esophagus and cause symptoms of GERD.

Signs and symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux acid reflux and heartburn. Both are common conditions that many people experience digestive occasionally. When these signs and symptoms occur at least twice a week or interfere with daily life, doctors call it GERD.

Most people can manage the discomfort of heartburn with lifestyle changes and over-the-counter medicines. But for people with GERD, these remedies only provide temporary relief. People with GERD may need stronger medication, even surgery, to reduce the symptoms.
